A spate of thefts from locked vehicles in Fife is puzzling police.
Vans broken in to are believed to have been secure and officers are trying to determine how the thieves, who did not force entry, got into them.
Thefts have been reported in Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay and Leslie. Owners insist they have locked their vehicle and returned to find it open and power tools missing.
It appears the central locking systems of the vans, mainly Fords, have been targeted.
In the most recent incidents in Leslie, power tools worth more than £1,000 were taken from three Ford Transits on Thursday night or Friday morning.
Items stolen in other thefts in recent weeks include building trade items of substantial value, such as cordless drills.
Police Scotland said “robust inquiries” were being conducted and advised work van owners to remove tools and expensive equipment at night.
Community Sergeant Kenny Greig said: “I am urging members of the public to call police should they witness people acting suspiciously around vehicles or have any information in relation to these crimes.
“Various tools have been stolen such as saws and drills made by various manufacturers. Unusually, it appears that the vehicles were secure at the time of the offences.
“I would urge owners to remove valuable items even when locking the vehicles and when parking up overnight.”
Other advice to owners included ensuring windows are fully closed, property marking tools, using immobilisers and fitting alarms and marking on vehicles that tools are removed at night.
