VIDEO: Animals cooling off with ice lollies in the summer heat

Animals feeling the heat have been enjoying ice lollies with a difference at Camperdown Wildlife Park.

While some of the seasonal treats contain frozen fruits, like pomegranate, grape and watermelon, the carnivore’s icy delicacies contain less than delightful blood and raw mince.

The ring tailed lemurs like their lollies hanging from branches, the wolves get theirs in a chewy dog toy called ‘Kong’ while the bears enjoy a whole bucket sized ice lolly by the pool.

Kellie Ross, wildlife centre keeper, said: “The wolves still have their winter coats after a mild spring so are keen to get a cold feast.

“The two adult bears, Comet and Star particularly enjoy frozen watermelon but also have a cool den and pool to chill in the hot weather.”

Meanwhile, at St Andrews Aquarium the penguins who don’t like heat are spending more time at the pool during the unusually hot weather.

The aquarium is pumping Scotland’s naturally icy seawater into the tank to help them chill out.
