A 14-year-old Fife girl who raised more than £3,000 last year in memory of her grandfather is to help her ill maths teacher.
Brynja Duthie from Cupar lost her grandfather to prostate cancer in January 2014.
Determined to raise funds and awareness of men’s health issues, she went on to raise £3,808 for the charity Movember by baking tash-on-a-stick cookies. Due to her achievements, she was hailed MoSista in the UK.
At that time, she attributed her success to the support of her friends, family and teachers, particularly Donald Grewar, who teaches at Madras College in St Andrews.
Last August Brynja became aware Mr Grewar was unwell and had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS).
Mr Grewar, who now uses a wheelchair, had been a keen runner, which led Brynja to organise a fun run at 11am on Sunday September 13 at the Cricket Pavilion, St Andrews University Sports Fields.
Brynja said: “I wanted to show Mr Grewar how much I care about him and appreciate what he has done for me and others so I approached him with my idea for a fun run.
“He thought it was a great idea and is now helping me with the organisation.”
Mr Grewar said: “It is both hugely rewarding and humbling to work with Brynja. The fun run should be a great event.”
