Thousands of visitors expected for Pipe Band Championships in Fife

Pipe bands from across Scotland are tuning up as part of their preparations for a major competition in Burntisland next weekend.

The Pipe Band Championships take place on July 18, with thousands of visitors expected to descend on the town for the occasion.

To be held in Burntisland for the next three years, it is hoped the competition could generate in the region of £340,000 for the local economy.

It is a huge boost for the seaside resort, which is no stranger to the sound of the pipes after the town pipe band were declared world champions for their class last year.

The competition starts at noon and is expected to finish at 4.30pm.
