Police investigating the death of a Glenrothes man have not officially ruled out foul play.
Wayne Fleming’s remains were found in the town’s Riverside Park a week ago.
The 39-year-old, known as “Bagsy” to his friends, was only reported missing last month but had not been seen since either February or March.
It is understood that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Fleming’s death. However, Police Scotland continues to state that the fatality is being treated as “unexplained”.
Mr Fleming’s remains were discovered by a group of teenagers in woodland near the River Leven last Tuesday.
The remains, described as “skeletal” by police, were found in conditions that were particularly hard for officers to work in thick woodland and damp underfoot.
Reports of Mr Fleming’s disappearance emerged at the beginning of July with the police requesting assistance from the public.
Following last Tuesday’s discovery, a number of families with missing relatives were contacted.
Among those were the family of Allan Bryant Jr, a now 25-year-old who has not been seen since November 2013.
His father, also named Allan, passed on his condolences following Saturday’s confirmation that the remains in the park were those of Mr Fleming, adding: “It must be terrible what they (the Fleming family) are going through.”
