Armed police burst into a house in Methil last night after a man allegedly threatened to harm himself.
An armed response unit rushed to the ground-floor flat on the town’s Byron Street where shocked neighbours said there had been claims the man had a gun.
A large area of the street was cordoned off and police eventually used battering rams to enter the house.
The man, in his forties, was eventually escorted to an ambulance in handcuffs by officers.
The incident, which lasted around three hours, is believed to have been sparked by a domestic dispute.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed armed officers were called to the address.
He added: “It was concern for a member of the public and armed officers assisted.
