Partnership seeks funds to help bring hills closer to the public

An initiative to encourage more Fifers to explore the region’s highest peaks is looking to the internet to get more people into the great outdoors.

The Living Lomonds Landscape Partnership has unveiled plans to develop a website and possibly a mobile app to supplement its work.

An association of organisations from both Fife and Perth and Kinross, the project aims to reconnect people from surrounding communities with the Lomond and Benarty Hills.

As part of this, the partnership is seeking £17,000 of Glenrothes community funding to improve links between the hills and the town.

If this sum is awarded, five trailheads linking the hills with the town would be established, while new signs and a website would provide visitors with information.

Ed Heather-Hayes, programme manager, said: “We want to encourage people who are not particularly confident to walk in the countryside.

“It’s about engaging people with the hills. This will benefit the people of Glenrothes and of Fife.”
