Water levels deemed critically low in central Fife
ByThe Courier Reporter
Water supplies in central Fife are still critically low, according to the operators of reservoirs.
Scottish Water has again urged residents of Glenrothes and its surrounding areas to save water whenever possible after warning that its stocks in the Lomond Hills were running low.
Levels have yet to recover following a warm summer, coupled with a lack of rainfall for this time of year.
Last month, the company confirmed that it could pump water from elsewhere to service demand, should water levels fail to recover.
However, residents are being asked to play their part by using their water supply sparingly in the meantime.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “While some raw water resources in the Lomond Hills have lower than normal levels as a result of low rainfall, we are continuing to manage our supply sources to maintain supplies to customers.
“We always encourage customers to save water where they can. Turning the tap off when brushing teeth, for example, is a very easy way of saving water. We all have a role to play in using water wisely.”
