All the fun of the fair returned to Kirkcaldy this afternoon as the annual Links Market got under way.
The longest street fair in Europe, a spring tradition in the town, brought with it the usual blast of noise and colour to the banks of the Forth.
George Codona, chairman of the Scottish branch of the Showmen’s Guild, said that the annual event is a highlight for stall and ride owners.
“To the showmen it is vitally important,” he said.“There are other fairs that start earlier but for many this is the proper start to their season.
“There’s 700 years of heritage here so it is very special.”
Depute Provost Kay Morrison was on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open this year’s fair, backed by a chorus of hundreds of thrillseekers.
Around 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the market over the next six days.
