A Dunfermline supermarket check-out operator stole £1,533 in takings by putting the money in her socks, a court has heard.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Donna McCall, 31, of Brucefield Terrace, Lumphinnans, admitted that between October 1 and October 31 at the Asda superstore, Halbeath Retail Park, she stole £1,533.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said the accused had worked at the store for one month.
On October 20 a member of staff became aware of a shortfall of money from the tills over the previous two weeks.
Investigations into who had worked at the tills concerned found only one operator had been at all of them and that was McCall.
“Police were called. She said she had taken money from the till, hid it down the chair then she put it in her sock,” Ms Yousaf said.
McCall said she had been taking £100 a day.
“She said she had been short of money lately and all her money went on bills and food. She said all the money had been spent,” added the depute fiscal.
The court heard McCall had told police officers: “I’m definitely sorry.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 140 hours of unpaid work and a compensation order for £1,533.
