A Dunfermline man who stole £7,500 from his grandmother’s bank account by making withdrawals from a cash machine has been slated by a sheriff.
Sheriff Celia Sanderson told Kenneth Driver: “This is a singularly unpleasant offence, stealing from your grandmother in such a sly and snide way.”
Driver, 32, of Tweed Street, who stole the money to pay off drug debts to loan sharks, was appearing for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
He had previously admitted that on various occasions between February 8 and October 22 last year at the Co-operative Group, Castlandhill Road, Rosyth, he used a bank card and number dishonestly obtained to steal £7,500 from an ATM.
Defence agent Alexander Flett said Driver’s mother paid back around £1,000 and Driver was giving his mother money from his benefits to repay her.
Sheriff Sanderson imposed an 18-month drug treatment and testing order on Driver.
