Steven Thomson, of Dunfermline, made a brief private appearance at the town’s sheriff court. He faces a further charge of theft. Thomson made no plea or declaration and the case was committed for further examination. He was remanded in custody. Mr Banks’ death in the Abbeyview area was the subject of an inquiry led by detectives from the major investigation team. A public appeal was issued for witnesses with Mr Banks’ family paying tribute to a beloved son with “a heart of gold”. In a statement issued through police they described him as a “beloved son and a much-loved brother and uncle”.
