A united front is the key to reopening the Levenmouth rail link, it has been claimed.
Fife councillors and members of the Levenmouth Rail Campaign (LMRC) are determined to adopt a unified approach as they enter the final stages of their bid to bring trains back to the area.
The council’s executive committee will next week consider a report on the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (Stag) findings and LMRC has already given its feedback.
Group chairman Eugene Clarke said it was very useful to have been able to comment on the consultant’s report.
“We were able to identify some aspects which could be revised to strengthen even further the case for the line, while at the same time retaining the desired level of objectivity,” he said.
“I am confident the campaign will be successful if we can continue this level of co-operation with all the parties involved.”
Fife Council’s depute leader, Lesley Laird, said: “We’ve been working closely with the campaign group and wanted them to see and comment on the Stag report before it went to executive committee.
“We all recognise that the report must conform to the guidelines provided by Transport Scotland and Network Rail. But we also want to ensure that it reflects what we believe to be a strong case for Levenmouth, both in terms of transport connectivity and the wider economic benefits that it would bring.
“The next stage, once approved at executive committee, will be submitting the Stag to Transport Scotland for assessment and approval.”
If approved, Network Rail will develop a detailed analysis and business case.
