Residents in Newport have expressed their frustration at the inability to remove an abandoned car which has lain in situ for half a year.
The Peugeot 206 was reported as an abandoned vehicle on Station Brae back on March 18, but repeated requests for either the owner or authorities to remove the car have failed.
Following checks, a letter was sent by Fife Council to the registered keeper who advised that there were mechanical problems with the car which would be attended to.
However, almost six months on, local people’s patience with the issue is wearing out.
Councillor Tim Brett, who represents the Tay Bridgehead ward, said: “I was advised that as the vehicle was taxed to the end of June no further action could be taken under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity Act 1978), which covers abandoned vehicles. “It transpired that the DVLA do not take any action on abandoned vehicles until 62 days have passed from the date when the vehicle excise licence lapsed.
“That was on September 2. At that point the DVLA uses vehicle agents, in this case based at Bo’ness and they should attend and will clamp the vehicle.”
Mr Brett said the fact there is still no sign of the vehicle either being clamped by DVLA or removed is of “serious concern” to him, the community council and to local residents.
