ByThe Courier Reporter
Fife MEP Catherine Stihler was involved in a terrifying mid-air drama when the plane she was on suffered an engine failure.
Mrs Stihler was travelling back to the mainland from the Shetlands on Thursday when the plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Kirkwall, Orkney.
She Tweeted about the incident around 5pm.
“Emergency landed in Kirkwall. An engine failed. Very very scary.”
She gave this update around two hours later: “Boarding new plane to Inverness from Kirkwall. Fingers crossed. Thanks to the ground staff and catering team.”
The Aviation Safety Network posted on its website: “A Saab 340B aircraft, operated by Loganair on behalf of Flybe, landed safely at Kirkwall Airport, Orkney Islands, UK following the in-flight shut down of the left hand engine.
“The flight involved was BE6938 from Sumburgh Airport, Shetland Islands, to Inverness, Scotland, via Kirkwall.”
