A Fife butcher’s steak pies have been judged the best in Scotland.
Andrew Kirk who has shops in Cardenden and Kinghorn was named Scottish champion in the 2015 Scottish Craft Butchers’ Steak Pie Evaluation.
Heats were held at Perth College last month to establish five regional champions from around Scotland and Andrew’s fare was voted best of the bunch by celebrity chef Mark Heirs who was a quarter-finalist in 2008’s MasterChef: The Professionals at the Monteith Dining Group in Stirling.
Andrew was understandably delighted to pick up the prize.
“It was nice to find out that I had won the East of Scotland title but it was real elation at lifting the Scottish title,” he said.
“It is nice to get recognition for what is a very popular and important Scottish dish.”
More than 150 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.
