A 25-year-old man has been ordered to do unpaid work and pay compensation for an attack which left his victim severely injured.
The incident took place in St Mary’s Place, St Andrews, more than two years ago.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Kyle Reynolds of Roehampton, London, admitted that on September 12 2013, he assaulted Hugo Jeffreys, punched him to the head and knocked him to the ground, all to his severe injury.
He returned for sentencing and defence solicitor Roshni Joshi told the court her client had been “heavily under the influence of alcohol” at the time of the offence.
His recollection of the incident was said to be “vague” and she added: “He’s clearly at a loss as to what set him off in this matter.”
Ms Joshi said her client was “very ashamed of his behaviour” and “felt sorry” for the victim.
“It’s been a very stern lesson learned in terms of monitoring his alcohol intake,” she continued.
In sentencing, Sheriff Charles Macnair said: “This was an assault which you committed when you were heavily under the influence of alcohol and it resulted in a serious injury to the complainer and the consequences could have been far more severe.”
Sheriff Macnair imposed a community payback order with 240 hours of unpaid work.
He also ordered Reynolds to pay compensation of £2,000 to the victim.
