Friends posted on the Braveheart Cycling Fund forum describing him as “a loving uncle,” “a true gentleman of the sport” and “a great character.”
Messages of support were also given to Mr Speed’s sister Mhairi and the rest of the Speed family who are all well known in the Fife cycling circuit.
Mr Speed’s death brings the total number of cyclists killed on Scotland’s roads this year to 11.
He was travelling westbound when the tragedy unfolded and police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward to help them with their investigations.
