A Dunfermline youth who repeatedly stamped on the head of a man he had knocked to the ground has avoided a custodial sentence.
The actions of Dylan Cameron were described as “thuggery” and “despicable” by his own solicitor.
He attacked two victims leaving one of them unconscious.
Cameron, 19, of Izatt Avenue, admitted that on October 18 last year at Pizza Boy, Carnegie Drive, he assaulted Conner Gillespie by butting him on the nose to his injury.
He also admitted assaulting Jamie Merrilees by repeatedly punching him on the face, dragging him to the ground and repeatedly kicking and stamping on his head, causing him to lose consciousness, all to his injury.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Mathieson-Dear previously said: “This was an appalling incident. He accepts that this type of thuggery is not acceptable.”
When Cameron returned to court for sentencing Mr Mathieson-Dear said: “These offences are fairly despicable.”
He added: “Two young men were out enjoying themselves and have been subject to a quite savage attack.”
However, he called for an alternative to a custodial sentence to be imposed and gave the sheriff a letter Cameron had written while remanded in custody for reports.
There was also a letter in support from his employers, a local roofing company.
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 300 hours of unpaid work.
He also ordered Cameron to pay compensation of £250 to Mr Gillespie and £750 to Mr Merrilees.
