Scottish Water has warned people to be cautious near a Fife reservoir affected by drought.
The company has urged walkers and anglers to take extreme care at Ballo Reservoir, near the Lomond Hills, after two people had to be rescued from mud on Saturday evening.
The pair are believed to have been a father and son and emergency services attended shortly before 7pm after they became stuck making their way out to the water.
They were apparently trapped in mud up to their waists when their calls for help were heard nearby.
An inflatable walkway was set up to allow them back to shore and the whole rescue took around an hour and a half to complete.
Warning those who may be tempted to fish the reservoir, a Scottish Water spokesman said: “We worked with emergency services to ensure speedy access to the location of the men on the reservoir.
“Reservoirs are man-made features and have a number of unique hidden dangers such as dams, spillways and water intakes.
“Natural hazards can also occur where people can get entangled in vegetation or stuck in mud.
“Other dangers at reservoirs include steep banks and as the majority of reservoirs are remote, there is risk of a lack of immediate assistance.”
Ballo has been closed to anglers for months due to a lack of water over the summer.Photo courtesy ofG Laird/Geograph.org.ukDo you know the men involved? Contact us on 01382 575130 or emailnews@thecourier.co.uk.
