Rumours that a second Kirkcaldy supermarket was to close have been ruled out by its operator.
Morrisons has confirmed to The Courier it has no intention of closing its store at Invertiel, despite rumours the chain was about to hand staff their notice.
The outlet, which opened in December 2013, serves communities in the west of Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn and Burntisland, and is thought to employ 250 people.
However, rumours had emerged that staff were to be given a notice period of 100 days after the firm published its worst profit results for eight years earlier this month.
The company had stated it would close 23 of its smaller convenience stores, although it was understood its larger supermarkets would not be affected.
Following the rumours its £25 million store was on the verge of closing just 15 months after opening, Morrisons has moved to dispel any concerns.
A spokesman for the supermarket said: “There are no plans to close the Kirkcaldy store.”
The town is still reeling from the impending closure of Tesco, which closes its doors next Saturday with the loss of 179 jobs.
David Torrance MSP has thanked Morrisons for clarifying its position in the town, stating: “I welcome Morrisons commitment to Kirkcaldy and its support of jobs in the area.”
