Artist Jack Vettriano O.B.E with The Missing Man (£100,000-150,000) at Bonhams in Edinburgh, where a collection of twelve paintings estimated at a total of between £800,000 - £1,200,000 will go to sale on 27th March. A collection of paintings by Fife artist Jack Vettriano was sold for almost £1 million at auction on Tuesday evening.
The pictures, including his iconic work, Walzers and The Missing Man II the “star of the show” according to the artist fetched £837,900.
Waltzers attracted the single biggest bid, £236,500 from a UK buyer by telephone.
The Road to Nowhere exceeded its £100,000 to £150,000 estimate when another UK phone bidder paid £218,500.
The Missing Man II went to a European bidder in the auction room for £112,900.
A total of seven paintings sold and the other five failed to reach their reserve prices.
The unique collection was offered for sale by an anonymous collector of 63-year-old Vettriano’s work and had been displayed in New York, London and Edinburgh.
It was described by auctioneers, Bonham’s, as the “the most important collection of Jack Vettriano’s work to appear at auction for the past 10 years”.
