Commuters facing a lengthy detour when a main road to St Andrews closes have been encouraged to get on their bikes.
St Andrews University is running a park and pedal scheme while the A919 is shut to allow pipeworks to be laid between the town and its Guardbridge Energy Centre.
Staff, students and the wider public can hire bicycles free of charge and use secure car parking and a sheltered bike store.
From today, a dedicated car park opposite Guardbridge Mill clock will allow cyclists to park in Guardbridge and cycle on to St Andrews. Main Street in Guardbridge closes next Monday until April 8.
A university spokesman said it takes around 25 minutes to cycle between St Andrews and Guardbridge along the A91 cycle path.
The £25 million energy centre will see hot water piped underground from a biomass boiler to heat university buildings.
It is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and reduce university energy costs and carbon emissions.
More than 250 staff will move to Guardbridge, helping to revive the community eight years after it lost its paper mill and major employer.
The road closure will cause major disruption for motorists and residents and businesses in Guardbridge and neighbouring villages.
It will involve a lengthy diversion via the Dairsie roundabout, Balmullo and St Michaels.
A secondary diversion option will operate via Balmullo, Cupar and Pitscottie in an attempt to avoid long queues at the Guardbridge roundabout.
