A Fife pensioner who was killed in her own home will be laid to rest next week.
Mary Logie, 82, who was also known as Rae by many, was found dead in her home in Green Gates, Leven, on the evening of January 5 sparking a major murder investigation in the Levenmouth area.
Her neighbour, Sandra Weir, 40, was arrested in connection with her death and has twice appeared in court facing murder and theft charges.
Mrs Logie’s passing shocked friends and the community, and they will get their chance to pay their respects at a service on Friday February 19.
The 82-year-old’s funeral has been scheduled to take place at Leven Parish Church at 10am, followed by a burial service at East Wemyss Cemetery at 11am.
Minister Gilbert Nesbit, who is expected to lead the tributes next week, said the pensioner would be sorely missed.
“Mary was friendly and outgoing, a kind lady who was bright and interesting to talk to,” he said.
“I’ve been the minister here for nine years and she came to church virtually every Sunday. I would chat to her at the door.
“The whole community is shocked. People are absolutely stunned.
“There are many church members here who will be alarmed that such a thing could have happened in this community.”
Mrs Logie is understood to have lived in her flat in Green Gates for 45 years, and her husband Walter passed away in 1987 at the age of 56.
Her sons Derek and Ronald will travel up from England to attend the service, while her daughter Caryl who lives in Australia is also expected to make the trip.
A devoted churchgoer, Mary attended Leven Parish Church lunches twice a week as well as Sunday services.
Police have thanked the Leven community for all their assistance during the investigation and are continuing to appeal to anyone who has information relevant to the murder inquiry to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
