Police in Glenrothes are appealing for assistance from members of the public following a spate of housebreakings in the area.
Between Wednesday March 18 and Friday March 20, seven properties in Tay Court, Scott Road, Bilsland Road, Netherby Park, Culdess Avenue, Michael Path and Waverley Drive were targeted by thieves who stole various items of jewellery and electrical equipment.
Glenrothes Community Sergeant Kenny Greig said enquiries into all incidents were onging and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Local officers will be out speaking to residents in local communities, providing a high-visibility presence and supplying helpful security information and advice,” he said.
“I would appeal to any member of the public who can assist or provide us with any information to please contact us, anonymously if they wish.”
Sergeant Greig reminded people to ensure their properties remain safe at night by following basic simple security measures.
“Make sure that you lock all windows and doors when you retire for the evening or leave your property unoccupied. Valuables should always be stored safely out of sight and not on public display,” he said.
“Please remember that gardens and sheds are extensions of your home and objects of value, such as a bikes and tools should be appropriately locked away.
“Where possible, consider installing motion-sensor lighting and alarm systems to your homes, as these are very useful deterrents against acquisitive crime.
“Most importantly, please ensure your property has a good lock on it and always utilise this when you go to bed or head out for the day or evening.
“Community Officers are happy to provide further crime prevention advice and anyone looking to obtain more information can visit their local police station.”
Dick Jones from the Glenrothes Neighbourhood Safety Group added: “Our group is active in the area and our main aim is to get community safety and crime prevention messages across and give people the chance to purchase items of equipment which could improve their personal security or the security of their homes or garden sheds.
“Among the items, which we have available are purse safety chains; purse bell alert bells, personal attack alarms; shed alarms and light timers. “
