Known as a household name in a sport of big personalities, Jocky Wilson certainly walked to the beat of his own drum. A star of darts’ original golden age of the 1980s, two-time world champion Wilson was immortalised through his battles with Eric Bristow. A “sad day” was how the world of darts described his passing in March 2012 at the age of 62. But now it has emerged that a plaque could be placed on the sea wall in his home town of Kirkcaldy. Wilson was twice crowned winner of the World Darts Championship as well as winning a host of other titles. Known as “The King Of The Oche” he played darts at the Lister Bar in Kirkcaldy, while working as a commis chef, fish processor, miner, and coalman. Local councillor Neil Crooks is now backing plans for a memorial. He said: “There should be something to remember Jocky. He was a legend.” For more on this story, see Friday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
