A home gas supply and several cars were damaged in a large-scale fireraising spree in the east end of Kirkcaldy.

Police are attempting to trace two teenagers following the incidents, which took place throughout Thursday night and Friday morning.

Bins in Anderson Street, Aitken Street, Bank Street and Wishart Place were all targeted, with the blazes spreading to nearby property.

Extensive damage was done to vehicles and buildings, with police having been left particularly concerned after a residential gas supply was damaged by the flames.

Detective Sergeant Craig Fraser from Kirkcaldy CID said the incidents have caused great upset in the area.

“Fortunately, no one was seriously injured as a result of these reckless acts but it could have been very different,” he told The Courier.

“Two of the fires spread to nearby vehicles and buildings, causing extensive damage, and to a gas supply pipe of one of the properties.

“This has caused significant distress and expense to the home owners.”

Bin fires have becoming increasingly common in recent years, particularly in areas of Glenrothes.

Fire officers have been visiting schools to raise awareness of the dangers of starting fires and the emotional distress they can cause to householders.

Detective Sergeant Fraser said that following these incidents, officers in the east end of Kirkcaldy community will be conducting high-visibility patrols in the coming days to reassure residents.

Meanwhile, he has appealed to anybody with information to come forward and assist police with their inquiries.

“We are appealing for any information regarding these incidents and in particular we would like to speak to two teenagers seen in the area around the time of the fires.

“The girl is described as being between 15 and 17 years old, of slim build with short, dyed-red hair. She was wearing jeans. The boy is a similar age and was wearing grey shorts and a T-shirt.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
