Cardenden leisure centre to reopen next month following fire
ByThe Courier Reporter
The operator of a fire-damaged leisure centre has assured users it will reopen next month.
Bowhill Swimming Pool in Cardenden sustained extensive damage after a blaze in the sauna tore through parts of the building.
More than 20 firefighters were required to bring the fire under control in July. The building has been closed to the public since.
The centre’s operator, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, has told The Courier a mid-February date for reopening is now scheduled.
Sharon Johnstone, area leisure manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “The trust is continuing to work with Fife Council, which is overseeing repair work to Bowhill Swimming Pool following a fire at the facility last year.
“We are pleased to update customers that repair works are on schedule and estimates are they will be complete by mid-February.
“If necessary, the trust will operate a phased opening so that customers can enjoy access to the swimming pool and other facilities while any isolated works are completed.
“We would like to thank customers for their continued patience and apologise for any inconvenience.”
