A Fife drink driver, who was involved in a collision when he had his four-year-old child in the car, has been sentenced for the offence.
Christopher Davidson, 31, of Houldsworth Street, Blairhall, admitted that on 29th January in Halbeath Road, Dunfermline, he drove a car after consuming excess alcohol.
His reading was 47 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.
Depute fiscal Fiona Nairn told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that at around 9.30pm Davidson’s car collided with another vehicle after he failed to stop at a red light.
After the accident those present could see that Davidson was under the influence of alcohol, his speech was slurred and he appeared to be unsteady on his feet.
Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said his client had attended a funeral and wake that day, at which he had consumed alcohol.
Later he “felt okay to drive” and went to pick up his partner from her work. “He accepts it was a foolish decision. It’s been a wake-up call especially since his son was in the back of the vehicle,” added the solicitor.
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 12 months’ supervision, a four-month restriction of liberty order and disqualified Davidson from driving for three years.
