Police are continuing their investigations into the latest report of a possible abduction attempt in Fife.
Officers are keen to speak to a taxi driver who was driving eastbound on Clay Road, Balmullo, towards Guardbridge at about 4.20pm last Friday.
He is described as being around 40-50 with dark, tanned skin and short, dark hair with grey flecks.
The man is thought to have been driving a silver car, similar to a VW Passat, displaying a taxi sign on the roof.
As we reported, a female pupil from Bell Baxter High School in Cupar got off the school bus and was walking home alone down a quiet, darkened road in Balmullo at around 4.20pm last Friday when a vehicle stopped and she was offered a lift.
The 15-year-old girl told her mother about the incident and the authorities were alerted.
A key line of inquiry is to ascertain whether the driver had stopped to offer the girl a lift with good intent.
Inspector Jim Meek confirmed officers have spoken to the girl and her family and efforts had also been made to speak to taxi firms.
Extra patrols were put on the streets of Balmullo to coincide with the school buses coming in and to give public reassurance.
The police have urged pupils to be cautious but at the same time have made it clear they do not want to raise undue public concern.
Inspector Meek said: “This may very well be a taxi driver operating in the area and who had genuine concerns for a young woman walking alone on a dark country road. Efforts to trace the driver of the taxi have continued today.
“We are very keen to speak to this driver in order to verify the circumstances that this is not a suspicious incident.”
On Tuesday, a letter was sent to parents with pupils at primary schools in the vicinity, alerting them to the potential danger.
