Akira Hasegawa, 65, who used to run a Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh, took ill while playing in the club’s spring medal. He attempted to walk off the course but collapsed near the 15th hole. He had been a member of the New Golf Club since 2010 and last year won one of the club’s major events. It is understood that a member of the course staff attempted to resuscitate Mr Hasegawa but he could not be saved.
