A woman who was caught drunk behind the wheel for the second time in a year has narrowly avoided a prison sentence at Cupar Sheriff Court.
Elizabeth Clark, 50, from Glasgow Road, Paisley, admitted driving with 101 mics in Bridge Street in St Andrews on September 5.
Clark also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, having been banned for a previous drink-driving offence.
Her defence agent, Douglas Williams, said Clark had been using her car as “an itinerant home” in between moving house.
Sheriff Charles Macnair told Clark that the charge merited a custodial sentence but he was “just prepared” to spare her jail.
He said: “You were disqualified from driving for two years for a drink-driving offence after you were found to be more than twice over the limit and within a year of that disqualification you again got behind the wheel of a vehicle and drove while you were almost three times over the legal limit with no insurance,” he said.
“This is a very serious offence … if you drive while disqualified again, you can expect to end up behind bars.”
Clark was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work, banned for six-and-a-half years and ordered to attend alcohol counselling.
