A Kirkcaldy nightclub has been granted a one-off 4am licence for a reality TV star’s visit to compete with its Dunfermline rival.
Kitty’s nightclub has been allowed the late-night licence for Celebrity Big Brother and Made in Chelsea star Ollie Locke’s turn as the star attraction on Saturday April 19.
The owners were looking for parity after Dunfermline nightclub Harlem had been granted a similar 4am licence for the visit of international female DJ Juicy M on the same night.
The Kirkcaldy establishment made its application to members of the Fife Licensing Board today.
A Kitty’s spokesman said: “This is simply about adhering to a level playing field. The 4am licence was granted to a club in Dunfermline. My client is simply trying to achieve parity.
“This is not going to result in extra drinking simply in extra footfall to the club and to Kirkcaldy town centre.”
Inspector Donald Jenks told the board that Police Scotland had concerns but had no firm objections to the application.
Councillor Tom Adams said: “The Dunfermline nightclub provided a presentation telling us what they are going to do regarding extra stewarding, taxis, etc. Have you made similar preparations?”
The Kitty’s spokesman said: “If we had to make any extra or special provisions to open until 4am it would show we are not doing the job properly to be opening until 3am, which is not the case. This is a significant investment by the club to put on a show for the kids in the area.”
The nightclub’s plans were backed by a letter from Kirkcaldy4All giving their support to the proposal. Councillor Andrew Rodger proposed to give the plans the green light, and was seconded by Mr Adams.
Mr Rodger said: “I would hope that both of these are one offs in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy. I want to see a level playing field across Fife.”
