Construction of a £25 million private golf course and clubhouse near St Andrews is “well ahead of schedule” and the applicant is confident that the ambitious project is on course for a grand opening in the summer of 2016.
Rumours have been circulating that contractors working on the course had downed tools and abandoned the site.
But St Andrews International Golf Club (SAIGC) director Ewan McKay told The Courier that, apart from a now resolved “hiccup” in the summer regarding terms of payment, the project was now on track and looking towards its next stage of the planning application process.
Mr McKay said: “The extremely wet ground conditions will not allow any work at present. However, course construction will recommence sometime in the spring.
“In the meantime the planning consultants Colliers are about to submit a number of planning applications to Fife Council in regard to minor changes to the maintenance facility, to the biomass facility and to some other aspects.”
He added: “You will doubtless appreciate that this is a significant project and it is not unusual for misunderstandings or disagreements to occur with contractors. And … we admitted that we did have a bit of a hiccup earlier on regarding the terms of payment.
“But that was resolved and the fact is that, given the superb summer weather, we are well ahead of schedule and look forward to the time when we can resume work on site and in particular to the opening scheduled for summer of 2016.”
SOL Golf Construction, which started work on the course in early April, was contacted by The Courier but did not respond.
