Specialist search teams have been out again today in the Newport area as the search continues for Susan Reid, who has been missing for nearly a week.
At lunchtime today, search teams were concentrating on the Inverdovat Road area between Newport and Tayport.
Searchers were also targeting areas of the coastline as other inquiries also continued.
Susan, 56, was last in touch with her family on Tuesday January 21 and, despite numerous searches by specialist officers, no contact has been made with her.
She is described as 5ft 7in, of slim build and with short blonde/greying hair.
Susan, who stays in Kerr Street, works as a part-time librarian at Dundee University where she should have been working on Wednesday but did not appear.
Lifeboat crews from Broughty Ferry carried out a search of the Tay on Friday as part of the operation to find her.
Her son Jamie, 21,has appealedfor anyone who with information to come forward, saying her disappearance is out of character.
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale told The Courier today: “A general search is continuing in and around the Newport area. This includes the coastline and places of interest where Susan was known to have gone in the past.
“That’s where the search is concentrating. We are concentrating on various places where we have been told Susan liked to go walking.”
Chief Inspector Annandale said the specialist officers, who had travelled up from their base in Alloa, were highly trained and were working with local officers. He said other inquiries were ongoing.
A number of extensive searches have been carried out. No searches were taking place in Dundee at this time, he said, but CCTV was being looked at in areas she was known to frequent.
Officers were also working closely with the family at what was clearly a very difficult time for them.
He added: “She’s not gone missing before. This is totally out of character. The last known contact with her was last Tuesday. That’s the key for us. There’s been no confirmed contact since then.
“My message to the public is if you can recall seeing Susan in the Newport area since Tuesday January 21 then please get in touch with the police.”
Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
