Some of Fife’s newest families were welcomed en masse at the weekend.
With the arrival of the army at Leuchars Station, 800 soldiers have moved to the village and surrounding area, many with partners and children.
A fun day was held at the former RAF base by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, one of three military units to move to Leuchars, to reward those involved in the flit from Fallingbostel, in Germany.
It was part of a series of events to mark the homecoming of SCOTS DG and included activities for children, displays of military equipment and sporting competitions in fine weekend weather.
Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ben Cattermole said that after the upheaval of moving across Europe personnel and families were settling in well to their new lives.
He said: “This is a whole new world for us. Initially people were looking back at Germany and seeing what they missed, now they are here there are many opportunities they were unaware existed.
“People are buying and renting houses and integrating and work alongside the very people they are serving on behalf of.”
Children have started at local schools and partners have found jobs.
Families, couples and individuals are using local businesses and services, which fell quiet with the loss of the RAF.
Lt Col Cattermole said it was vital that the army became part of the local community and said: “Everyone has been so welcoming to us.
“If we have even half as good a relationship with the community as RAF Leuchars did then I think we will have succeeded.”
