Fife Council has moved to quell fears over a group of Syrian refugees due to arrive next month.
Housing chief John Mills has given an assurance that the four families preparing to seek refuge in Fife are vulnerable and pose no threat to locals.
His pledge follows a degree of anxiety expressed via social media in the wake of the Paris atrocities that some of the terrorists may have disguised themselves as refugees to gain entry to Europe.
Mr Mills, who also made it clear local services would not be swamped by the families’ arrival, said everyone coming to Scotland from Syria had been thoroughly screened.
“We have been accepting refugees from camps in Lebanon and Jordan,” he said. “They have not been part of the migration through Europe.
“They are doubly screened by the UN and the Home Office so any concerns around terrorism have been screened.
“We need to keep addressing that to give some assurance.”
Over the last year, Fife has already accepted the families of 10 Afghan interpreters formerly employed by the British Army.
