Residents of Fife are being urged to attend a public meeting over plans to ignite coal seams in the Forth.
David Torrance MSP says he has been contacted by concerned residents after oil baron Algy Cluf was granted licences by the Coal Authority for the process, known as underground coal gasification (UCG).
There are some concerns about the potential environmental impact of UCG, although advocates of the plans say it could make Britain energy self-sufficient for hundreds of years.
Keen to gather public feedback, Mr Torrance is inviting residents to state their views at a meeting next week.
He said: “Some constituents have been in touch to express their concerns about the impact of instigating this process and the impact it might have on the area.
“I am keen to hear the views of as many people as possible to provide me with a comprehensive picture of what aspects of this development people find most worrying and also from those who might be in favour of UCG.”
The meeting will take place at 7.30pm next Monday in Methil Community Centre, Bowling Green Street.
