A second accident occurred on a Fife building site in the space of 48 hours, it has emerged.
Calls are growing for health and safety to be tightened at the Persimmon Homes site in Kelty after a man needed treatment by paramedics following a fall on Wednesday morning less than two days after a 42-year-old worker was taken to hospital for back and arm injuries.
Firefighters were called to the development, just off Limepark Crescent, shortly before 12.45pm on Monday when the man was struck by construction materials in high winds and became trapped in the foundations of a new home.
He had to be freed by fire crews and was taken to hospital before being released later that day.
The Courier was contacted by a concerned local to highlight the fact that another man had suffered injuries at around 9.20am on Wednesday, when it is understood a stairway leading to the site manager’s office collapsed. It is understood the man’s injuries were not life threatening.
“I’m quite concerned that there’s a lot of kids who live locally and could get hurt if they were to get into that site,” said the Limepark Crescent resident, who did not wish to be named.
Iain Innes, managing director at Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “We strive to ensure that strict health and safety procedures and practices are in place at all of our sites to ensure the safety of our workers, contractors and authorised visitors.
“Our site security is always installed and maintained to restrict unauthorised access.
“The two workplace incidents that took place at our Kelty development this week are unrelated but…we have launched a full internal investigation.”
