The construction of a £10 million transport hub at Halbeath to support the New Forth Crossing is on schedule to open in November.
Work started last November on the massive park and ride site close to the M90.
Once up and running it is hoped the development funded by the Scottish Government as part of the Queensferry Crossing project and to relieve congestion will offer a new choice to commuters and drastically cut the time of bus journeys into the capital.
Fife Council’s design and construction service manager Mark Dewar said: “The access roads, car park and drainage are almost complete and all that remains to be done is the hub building which is at the internal fit out stage.”
Fife’s transportation spokesman Pat Callaghan added: “This facility will increase the travel choices available for many people and complements the existing facility at Invekeithing.
“When it’s operational, Halbeath Park and Ride will provide opportunities for car sharing and parking for more than 1,000 vehicles,” he said.
The new development will have six bus stances and all passing bus services will stop at the interchange.
There will also be dedicated bus lanes on the M90 to prioritise public transport between Halbeath and Edinburgh, making it an additional option for commuters into Edinburgh.
The aim of the new site is to replicate the success of Ferrytoll Park and Ride, just a few miles further south along the M90 at Inverkeithing.
