A Kirkcaldy “party flat” has been closed down after police were called to the property 45 times in five months.
Police Scotland’s Fife Division today secured a closure order under Section 27 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Etc (Scotland) Act 2004 after locals started a petition to have the Links Street flat’s female tenant removed.
A police spokesman said: “Despite numerous warnings and interventions by Fife Council housing officers, housing investigation team, social work and Police Scotland’s Fife Division violence and alcohol reduction unit, the tenant persisted in allowing the property to be used as a ‘party flat’.
“In a five-month period police were called to the premises on 45 occasions … The premises were closed and shuttered today and will remain closed until the order expires.”
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Sheriff Hendry granted the order excluding the tenant and any other person from entering or staying at 207 Links Street for the next three months.
Inspector Neil Henderson said: “This flat became a significant problem over a short period of time, with all attempts to have the occupier control the behaviour of visitors failing.
“The occupier was left in no doubt as to the consequences of allowing this behaviour to continue.
“Neither Fife Council nor Police Scotland will tolerate behaviour which blights our communities in such a way. We have the tools under the Anti-Social behaviour Legislation to take positive action, and today’s court order is an example of this.”
