The term ‘War Horse’ took on a whole new meaning in North East Fife on Saturday when five horses had the Help for Heroes Stretcher Bearers logo clipped into their backsides in aid of the charity.
When horses grow their winter coats it’s fairly standard practice for owners to clip them to allow them to keep working without getting too hot.
But the owner of Fife business Balanced Horsemanship and her friend took their equestrian skills to a whole new level when the charity event was held at Thornbank Stables, Blebo Craigs.
Careful not to make a horses’ backside of it, the clipping was expertly carried out by Joanna Heaton, owner of Balanced Horsemanship, and her friend Andrea Meldrum.
Andrea is a dab hand with the clippers and Joanna asked her if she could clip the Balanced Horsemanship logo on to her horse, Hobo.
Andrea then decided to clip the Stretcher Bearers on to her own horse, Abbey.
Andrea’s daughter, Amy, who works for Joanna, sent a picture of the clip to Help for Heroes who posted it on their Facebook page.
The post got such a huge amount of support Andrea, Amy and Joanna decided to hold a charity event to raise funds.
Andrea said: “I decided to clip the Stretcher Bearers logo so that Abbey had something that meant something special and people thought of all the heroes at this time of year.”
The girls clipped five horses on Saturday, having auctioned off clipping slots online at www.facebook.com/charity-clippingday.
Joanna said: “We had a special stencil made by Stencil Bum, which stuck on to the horses, so you didn’t need to use one hand to hold it on.”
A charity coffee morning was also held yesterday and the total raised from the weekend was £702.
