The seventh Auld Alliance charity cycle ride to Paris set off from Edinburgh.
Cyclists were waved off at the Scottish Parliament by transport and veterans minister Keith Brown.
Mr Brown said: “It’s very encouraging to see such enthusiastic cyclists participating in the 250-mile trip from Edinburgh to Paris.
“The seventh Auld Alliance cycling event is raising money for charities doing important work in Scotland, including Help for Heroes, and I appreciate the time and commitment of all those taking part.”
Over 40 people are taking part in the four-day, 250-mile challenge. Along the way, cyclists will visit the Somme battlefields and be welcomed at civic receptions in Lille and Peronne.
And Gemma Bryant, who has been crowned Miss Auld Alliance, will be encouraging the French to try some Scottish produce.
She said: “While the cyclists do their part for charity, my role is to promote Scotland by distributing to the public and at civic receptions a taste of Scotland.
“The event is sponsored by Highland Park as well as Tunnocks, Irn Bru, Walkers Shortbread and Nairn’s Oatcakes, which we give away at tourist offices en route.”
