The six-year-old boy remains in a serious condition in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident on Aberdour’s Main Street on Tuesday evening.
Witnesses have told The Courier that the youngster was hit by the blue Mercedes Sprinter van on the road, having been on the kerb with his father moments earlier.
The accident has put the issue of local road safety in to the spotlight, with residents saying a raft of pending traffic calming measures cannot be implemented soon enough.Sergeant Jim Henry, from the Police Scotland road policing unit, said: “A young boy has sustained serious injuries and we’re working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision.“We’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses but are urging anyone who has not yet come forward to get in touch.”
The road was closed for four hours as police investigated.
