Newport Skate Park Collective’s dream moves a step closer
ByThe Courier Reporter
A team of Fife youngsters are riding high after winning planning permission to build a skate park.
For almost two years Newport Skate Park Collective has been pushing for a £150,000 facility at Waterstone Crook Sports Centre.
The project took a huge leap forward when Fife Council’s north-east planning committee gave the OK, despite some opposition from neighbours.
Approval of the proposal, which includes concrete ramps, rails and a bowl, comes weeks after the group won a £75,000 grant from the Commonwealth Games Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund.
Members of the collective, many of whom are pupils at Madras College in St Andrews, are continuing to raise funds for the initiative but hope to start building it in March next year.
They are gathering support for their effort on Facebook.
