The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information, after four terrapins were found dumped outside an animal park in Fife.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was called to rescue the abandoned reptiles from Fife Animal Park, Collesie, near Cupar, on Sunday morning.
The terrapins are now in the care of the Scottish SPCA’s Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton.
“The terrapins had been left in four individual containers within one large, plastic crate,” said senior inspector John Chisholm.
“They were found outside the entrance to the park on a bench and whoever dumped them had also left a hot water bottle, presumably to provide them with some warmth.
“However, this does not excuse the fact these animals have been abandoned and this is an offence.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life. Anyone with information can call the charity on 03000 999 999.
