A retired Fife policeman has been jailed after committing a sickening catalogue of abuse against young girls.
Grandfather Iain Reid was sentenced to four years and four months at Falkirk Sheriff Court.
The former officer, who spent more than two decades with Fife Constabulary attaining the rank of detective constable, abused three girls aged six to 12 while living in a police house in Buckhaven, Fife, and later in Leven.
Now aged 66, the predator lured children with sweets, a chance to pat his dog, or in the case of one young girl, offers of lettuce for her rabbit over a 17-year period between 1980 and 1997.
Sheriff Craig Caldwell paid tribute to the victims who found the courage to confront their attacker.
After a five day trial, a jury of ten women and five men at Falkirk Sheriff Court found Reid guilty of three charges of lewd and libidinous conduct one of the charges aggravated by abduction.
During the trial one victim said she could still remember the “smell of his smokey breath” as Reid whispered in her ear then performed an act of sexual abuse.
In one attack he threw dog treats at a girl as she sat on the floor to encourage his dog to “sniff around” her clothed private parts.
Another girl said Reid made her perform handstands then touched her inappropriately while she was upside down.
Reid was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
