The approach to the Forth Road Bridge was closed off to all traffic and pedestrians as a precaution to allow a controlled explosion to take place near the bridge.
Motorists caught up in the horrendous disruption following this week’s closure of the Forth Road Bridge have slammed authorities’ handling of the situation.
The main route back to Fife was to close due to a controlled explosion on Wednesday.

of journeys were blighted by traffic chaos and confusion as reported times for the bridge closure fluctuated throughout the afternoon.“The whole ordeal was handled so badly,” one Fife mother said.
“They kept chopping and changing the times (for the road closure).
“When you see the video of the explosion on The Courier website, you just think: ‘Was that it?’
“I can’t understand why they would close the rail bridge as well it’s health and safety gone mad.”
