Plans clear way for end to ‘Russian roulette’ on Dunfermline roads
ByLeeza Clark
The “Russian roulette” being forced on HGV-dodging motorists could soon be over.
An end may be in sight to indiscriminate parking by huge lorries on two Dunfermline roads.
Nearby residents have been concerned for some time about the potentially hazardous situation on Sandpiper Drive and Amazon Way near the online giant’s fulfilment centre. Many large lorries park on the streets.
After pressure from residents, councillors and Dunfermline MSP Cara Hilton, Fife Council’s transportation service has agreed to bring forward plans to implement an urban clearway for a section of Sandpiper Drive and Amazon Way.
Only signs need to be erected, rather than huge lengths of markings which can be difficult and costly to maintain.
Councillors will be asked to consider the order at April’s City of Dunfermline area committee.
If agreed and should there be no objections, it is hoped the urban clearway will be enforceable before the Christmas rush at Amazon.
