A Leven mother has fulfilled her daughter’s dream of being an author by publishing the book she never got to see.
Aileen Young launched her daughter Georgia Paton’s debut novel The Witching Stone at an event at Leven Golfing Society.
Sadly, Georgia was not able to commit to having her book published as she was diagnosed with the blood cancer lymphoma in August 2010.
Aileen, her husband George and daughter Barbara spent 18 months caring for Georgia in Germany before her death in 2011 aged 46.
The story is a fantasy tale for children set in Fife and encompasses Largo Law, the Lothian Sea and Edinburgh Castle.
In October 2010 the story, woven around Georgia’s three sons Ruairidh, 18, Sean, 16 and Drew, 11, plus her two nieces, was to be published by Local Legends.
Aileen said: “Writing a book wasn’t something Georgia talked about until later in life. Whilst home on holiday and before moving to Germany, she said to me, ‘I think I have got a book in me mum’.
“Georgia derived a lot of pleasure in writing this story around her family. She told me the words seemed to flow off the end of her pen.”
Aileen added: “As a family we decided to self-publish and with the help of Duncan Lockerbie of Lumphanan Press we are happy to have achieved this.”
The book is available locally at Blacketyside Farm, Leven, Muddy Boots in Cupar, Very Crafty in Lower Largo, Waterstones, Kirkcaldy, and Innes Book Shop in St Andrews, as well as eBook through Amazon and at www.BooksfromScotland.com.
